Entry deadline for new look AXIS Awards approaching

The deadline for entries for the new look 2013 AXIS Awards  is rapidly approaching.  All entries need to be in by Monday 18th of March.  So if you have an OOH campaign or a single execution you think epitomises creative excellence enter it here.

This year’s CAANZ Axis Awards has been given a makeover in order to ensure it remains a credible, inspirational celebration of the New Zealand industry’s best work.

“It became clear last year that Axis needed to evolve if it was to remain relevant to agencies and also play a role in changing perceptions about the value of commercial creativity.   Axis should be an event that is a truly inspirational celebration of the amazing creative work being produced in New Zealand.” Paul Head, CAANZ CEO commented.

Assisting in the evolution was a review panel that included past Axis Award Committee members and some of the industry’s leading ECDs who spent the past six months thoroughly analysing the Axis Awards structure and looking at what other award programmes were doing, most notably Cannes.   Their brief was to ‘fix’ the judging process so it has greater transparency and ensure there is an appropriate balance of local and international input.  They were also tasked with raising the profile of Axis and reaching a broader audience.

Evolving Axis means significant changes need to be made going forward and these will be introduced in 2013.  There will now be three core components of the Axis Awards:  a day of speaker events, an exhibition of finalists’ work and the Awards Show.

The day of speaker events has evolved from the creative function that has existed for many years and will be held the day of the awards and will include a bigger line up of keynote speakers.   Three of these speakers come in the form of this year’s international judges, namely Chris Wall Vice Chairman, North America at Ogilvy & Mather, from Ogilvy & Mather in Chicago; Damon Stapleton, Executive Creative Director from Saatchi & Saatchi, Sydney and Feh Tarty, Creative Director from Mother in London.   Other keynote speakers are being brought to NZ by some of the Axis Award sponsors.

Other changes have been made to the awards programme itself, namely the introduction of jury presidents and Grand Prix awards which may be awarded in each jury category.   And the anticipation of a new trophy to enhance the trophy cabinet continues the Axis evolution.   The form of the new Axis trophy is a closely guarded secret and will be revealed on the night.

The Axis Awards day of speaker events and the Getty Images Axis Award Exhibition will be held at the Viaduct Events Centre on Thursday 9th May 2013.   The winners will be revealed at the Axis Awards Show to be held that evening.
